The Biostatistics Core provides assistance to researchers in the development and implementation of data management systems, data collection and data analysis. Services also include hypothesis formation, selection of research design, statistical analysis, data interpretation, and development of new statistical methods. The Biostatistics Core office is located within the office suite of the Center for Injury Research and Policy in the Research II Building.
· The Biostatistics Core is committed to providing all investigators at Children’s Hospital with excellent biostatistics services to facilitate outstanding science and maximal productivity.
· On-site biostatistics support is provided at Children’s Hospital by Soledad Fernandez, PhD, and other biostatisticians from the OSU Center for Biostatistics by appointment every Wednesday.
· The biostatistician office is located within the office suite area of the Center for Injury Research and Policy, off of the main floor lobby of Research II Building.
· Appointments can be scheduled by contacting Terri Bleeker at 722-2400 or terri.bleeker@nationwidechildrens.org.
· Dr. Fernandez and colleagues also will be available on other days of the week in their offices on the OSU main campus. Transportation is now available door-to-door via the inter-campus shuttle service, without parking difficulties, wasted time, or expense to the investigator.
· Like all core research services at Children’s Hospital, reimbursement for biostatistics support is expected. The usual fee ranges from $95/hour for master-level biostatisticians to $125/hour for PhD-level biostatisticians. It is each investigator’s responsibility to confirm the consultation fee rates with the biostatistician at their first meeting.
· Each investigator must provide the Biostatistics Core with a cost center for billing purposes at the time the first appointment is scheduled. This cost center might be an internal or external grant, a Hospital Divisional or Departmental account, CCRI investigator start-up funds, CCRI individual or Center incentive funds, or CCRI residual account.
· Recognizing that some investigators, who wish to use the services of the Biostatistics Core, do not have access to funds for research, the Children’s Research Institute has set aside a special account to handle these requests. No investigator will be denied biostatistics services due to lack of funds.
· Investigators are urged to plan the biostatistical approach to their research problem prior to beginning the research. Doing so will promote optimal data collection, database design, and data analysis.
· Please contact Terri Bleeker (at 722-2400 or terri.bleeker@nationwidechildrens.org) or Dr. Gary Smith, Director of the Biostatistics Core (at 722-2400 or gary.smith@nationwidechildrens.org), with questions or concerns.
